Starting next week, water levels on the canal will reduce to winter season levels( cause the skating season!), beginning in between Long Island and Hog’s Back on Wednesday and to Dow’s Lake on Friday. Water levels will fall in between Burritt’s Rapids and Long Island and Clowes and Merrickville starting Oct. 29.

This year’s boating season was a little truncated, with the canal opening behind normal in May, due to pandemic limitations.

The Rideau Canal Skateway is anticipated to open at some point in January, depending upon the weather condition. In 2015’s skating season ended after 26 days, amongst the fastest on record.
